Emancipation from the old dad – existence vs. spiritual eternal life

2. The old dad represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams!

This is an exciting topic, This is the battle between the old mans vision and the new mans vision. Our blindness verses the fresh sight Jesus Christ gives us. New eyes vs the old eyes, It’s a beautiful moment when we trust in our new eyes but it takes time and understanding which we get from applying ourselves to God’s Word and trusting in His Grace.

Let’s set the tone – “Carnal existence” this is all things carnal, so it goes beyond the pleasures but to placing the high value on our own existence. So it’s a survivalist mentality, phrases like “survival of the fittest” fit into this belief easily because it encourages that survival is key and chief above all else. It’s essential seems to me (by my reading and understanding) self above all, even the apparent betterment of self.

“Spiritual pipe dreams” – This for us Christians is the eternal life that Christ promised us, this is that beautiful revelation of Him. John 17:3 Jesus says “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” Our dreams or vision is set on the Eternal Father and the Heavenly things. Colossians 3 speaks about this beautifully which we will read at the end.

So the question is this… Are you carnally minded or spiritually minded? Is your mind set on survival or set on Eternal Life?

It’s a hard question for some, I believe many Christians are carnally minded I was and battle with the carnal mind often. I know that the carnal mind is lacking and when my vision is set on the carnal lower things, I lose focus of what is truly important. It is like momentarily stepping back into darkness. Maybe not as dark as it once was but certainly not the same brightness and brilliance that comes from looking onto Jesus Christ.

So why did that old dad teach us this? This is speculative thought, but I think it stands to reason. If we are set primarily on our own survival and our own benefits we will not purposely seek out God. Jesus taught us that if we want to seek after Him we must first deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him (see Luke 9:23). In essence place death in our beings and seek Him for life but if we seek after our own life then we will never seek after God’s Eternal Life.

Scripture shows us that we were never seeking after God.

Romans 3:11 “There is none who understands, there is none who seeks after God.”

Every believer in Christ is the product of Grace from start to finish, not one single person can say that they are a seeker after God by their own hand, it is God’s Grace working in us that begins that desire to seek after Him.

So how do we battle with this insecurity of our own life and seek after God’s Eternal Life?

First we need to acknowledge the frailty of our own life. Whether it be a baby or old man, we all have an appointed time to die. We in this world but a breath before we come before God. Our lives in this world have meaning and purpose but they are not found in this world.

We have absolutely no control of the world around us, we have absolutely zero sovereignty over what goes on around us, We can not even control our own lives let alone another’s. What can man do by himself? We can create nothing, we can destroy nothing, we understand that which is unimportant and that which is important we neglect.

We are frail in our beings, but secondly to that is that God has purpose and meaning for us, our greatest source of power is our weakness. Not that our weakness is powerful but that God is powerful in our weakness, We boast in our weakness not to boast in ourselves but to boast in God’s work within the frailty of ourselves.

So the old dad taught us to trust in our own survival and prize it above all else but God taught us to deny our own survival and trust in Him above all else.

Colossians 3:12-15 says

“12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”

How beautiful, this is not a survival mentality but one of service, one of love, this is what God has called us to, to walk in His image just as Jesus Christ being God and revealing God has enabled and showed us to do. Therefore let us do what the verse above says.

Colossians 3:1-4 says

 1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

There we have it, seeking those things above, some may mock our “spiritual pipe dreams” but we know that this Eternal Life of knowing the Father and the Son, to know the True God is by far worth any death we may face in this world. Trust Christ above all else.

Emancipation From The Old Dad - 1. Indulgence Vs Abstinence

First Principle of this way of life is this -

1. The old dad represents indulgence instead of abstinence!

Indulgence, what a word speaks volumes to me and I hope it does for you too, for it is to indulge that means “to allow oneself to enjoy pleasure of” generally indulge is in relation to something you shouldn’t be partaking in.

The old dad, has no concern about restraining us from our desires, his attitude is one that says “do as you please”, In fact in Satanism the “golden rule” is this – “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law”.

How confident they are in the fallen nature of man, that by our own will we will continue to do the will of the old dad. This isn’t to shock you but to reveal to you the very deprived state that we were and are in. The devil is confident that you left to your own devices are no threat to his kingdom and wouldn’t have a desire to leave it.

Let’s see how this is true of our lives and even how we as Christians convince ourselves that it is better for us to “indulge” rather than “abstain”.

I go to a church with a young adults ministry, I hear frequently in relation to lust, that because we are young and those desires are aroused it is inevitable for us to get entangled in various activity that is contrary to what God would have us do. Have you heard this before “we can’t fulfill the law so thank God for grace” This used in as a justification for some sin. I say this from experience I have said it many times in the past but after seeking God’s word about it I was shocked to see what God had to say about it.

(1 Cor 10:13) - No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

The truth is we would often rather indulge in temptation than abstain from it, this is the nature of the old dads influence in us that must be killed.

We try to spiritualize and justify it but there is no justification for it. Just as God is Faithful so is there a way out of temptation. Temptation is the step that goes just before indulgence. We do not “indulge” or “give ourselves to” something before we are enticed to. So when we say that temptation is to much, or that we can not walk away from a certain temptation we almost go to say “God is not as faithful as He says” though no-one would say this but we deny the Truth of God’s Word.

We must be so careful of our confessions and be more ready to recognize how we have fallen, how we are fallen and are redeemed and being redeemed. Romans 12:1-2 speaks of the “renewing of the mind” fighting the “uniformity” of this world.

Let’s look at abstinence, It means “The act or practice of refraining from indulging an appetite or desire", So what are those desires we have from the old dad?

The Fleshly Ways! Galatians 5:19-21 –

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

I remember a conversation with my friend I had about sex before marriage, I showed him where in the Bible it speaks about it, then I spoke from my own personal experience and struggles with temptation but ultimately told him it is better to abstain and do as God would have us do.

His reply was in essence this “but it feels so good, I don’t see how that could be a bad thing”…. How many people have made similar confessions like this, we bypass the word of God and turn to our feelings and base what is true on our feelings. God says do not commit adultery but we say “but I love her!” then try to justify that based on the fact God is a God of Love. Though we all too often indulge in our desires.

Another example, a man had killed 17 people over the course of two years, He was a serial killer, when asked why he committed this hideous crimes, for each person was killed in a horrific way. He replied, “Because it felt good!”

How quickly we would turn and say “this man is surely sick!” yet for ourselves we think our actions need the same justification, if we can’t see our need for God’s saving power in every area of our life we will continue to indulge just as we did before but even worse because we will try use God to justify our continued sinning.

Why is abstinence good and of God?

In short because to abstain requires self-control and faithfulness, these are categorized as being fruit of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us (Gal 5:22-23). God will eventually change our desires so we don’t struggle so much in those areas but until He does we must cooperate with Him and His Spirit by trusting in His ways.

The old dads desires are still raging against the new self Christ has made us to be.

Galatians 5:17 says -

17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

There is this relationship throughout the New Testament between the flesh and the Spirit. We if truly we have given our lives to Jesus Christ, want to walk as Children of God, doing those things are pleasing to Him and being pleased in Him. This takes time and takes trust, we need to trust God that we will experience the blessed rest and peace that He has promised us though now we may faced heated temptation to commit adultery, to gossip, to speak ill of something or be angry but we must trust God that He will and is able to keep us.

God has so blessed us and so redeemed us from our wicked selves through Jesus Christ. He has such great plans ahead for all of His children. We have been adopted not just by a King but the King of Kings. We have a blessed place and God takes care of His children by gently and sometimes sharply instructing us in the way we should walk. God is more aware than we are of our fallen nature, therefore He has given us a wealth of His Word to help us partake in the things are helpful for us to grow as His Children and to abstain from those things that are hinderances to ourselves.

It was by the Cross that we can leave the "old dad" behind but his nature is still in our being needing to be continually crucified in us by God's Word and God's Spirit, So as we continue this study, let us be bold in making our requests to God about the life we want in Him and have a courageous trust in God's Faithfulness.

So next time you feel the urge to “indulge” in some form of former practice (the old dads ways) think, “Which Father am I following?”

Emancipation From The Old Dad - Introduction

Introduction

Definition of Emancipation: freeing someone from the control of another; especially a parent's relinquishing authority and control over a minor child

I want to talk through 9 principles, which I will keep you in a level of secrecy until the very end about. They are 9 principles, which are used to define a particular way of living, but if I were to reveal it to you directly I feel some may not take the relevance of what is being taught.

So we shall go on a journey together!

John 8:44 says, “The devil is your father. You are from him. You want to do the sinful things your father, the devil, wants you to do. He has been a killer from the beginning. The devil has nothing to do with the truth. There is no truth in him. It is expected of the devil to lie, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

Jesus is speaking to the Pharisee’s here, We as a “modern” society often like to airbrush this truth, now we know that these Pharisee’s did not “sell their souls to the devil” but yet Jesus tells them straight that they do as their father the devil does. What incredibly hard words to bear for a person who believes their service is to God, though it was indeed mixed with much selfishness, These are hard words.

Though it is Truth, we are adopted to be Children of God by Jesus Christ (John 1:12-13, Eph 1:5), If we are then adopted then naturally we have another father, and that is what Jesus’ speaks of and that father is the Devil, Naturally we are born children of wrath.

Ephesians 2:2-3 -

2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

It is an extremely blessed gift this salvation we have in Jesus Christ!

So the reason this is called “emancipation from the old dad”, well firstly emancipation because I remember hear about children getting emancipations from their parents because their parents were in affect doing “bad or irresponsible jobs”, so this was legal ground for a “divorce” between a child and father. This isn’t why we can emancipated from our old dad (the devil) our legal ground for divorcing him is that Jesus Christ purchased for us a better home, a better father and a whole new freedom.

Naturally we’d be happy with the old dad because we are naturally “children of wrath” and this is more or less what I want to speak about, in the hope that it will encourage you toward your true Father God.

So we’ll be touring through these principles!

4. God’s Promise of Land

Genesis 12:1 -

1 Now the LORD had said to Abram:

“Get out of your country,

From your family

And from your father’s house,

To a land that I will show you.

How amazing is this promise. Think of what is being requested of Abram ( Abraham ) to establish it –

“Get out of your country,

From your family

And from your father’s house,

God is asking Abram to leave everything he has known except God, Leave behind everything that he is tied to. It’s absolutely amazing, Faith is what enabled Abram to do that because He trusted in who God is. Often on our walks with Jesus Christ, we need to leave things behind, leave our home environments, loved ones, and more, and Trust in Who He Is. God is Faithful, I believe Abram understood this well.

There is a few layers to this promise.

Initially with have a Promise for land, God say’s that by leaving your country, family, and fathers house, that He will show Abram land, a new home. The next scripture in Genesis 12:2-3, brings more weight to the promise but if God was to stop here and not promise to Abram the further things which were –

2 I will make you a great nation;

I will bless you

And make your name great;

And you shall be a blessing.

3 I will bless those who bless you,

And I will curse him who curses you;

And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Would we follow God’s command without any reassurance that God is going to Bless us there, but following and being obedient to God’s command because we acknowledge who He is. Something i’ve struggled with many times on my journey with Christ.

We have so many promises in Jesus Christ, that as and when God instructs us in our lives, God does not always reveal to us what Blessing He has awaiting for us when we get to where He is showing us to go because we have all those promises in His son, Jesus Christ. So we can trust His word and trust that His wonderful Promises will follow us wherever we go. So as we look into this scripture keep in mind that, We have those and more in Jesus Christ.

Abram is leaving his country, his national heritage. The culture that he has known. For ourselves we often find our identity in those around us and how we fit in to those around us and the culture we live in. God does not want that for us, He wants us to seek our identity in Him. We see God instructing Abram to leave his culture, to leave the land he had known. Which unlike today, would have been allot larger request, because there was not the luxuries that we often rely on today. Abram may not of had a clue what lay in the world around him. But what we see later is that Abram trusts in God and that God is able and does. The Hebrew word literally means country, land or nationality.

We see in the next thing God commands him to leave more verification of this. “From Your Family”, This is probably the hardest one for most people, we often think that God would not ask or cause a situation that may be stressful on a family, but this is not true. Jesus Christ spoke about how the Gospel will cause division to take place, We see this often in when a child or in a relationship when one is Christian and the other is not, or when a child is Christian and the parents are not. Jesus Christ spoke about this in Luke 12:51-53 –

51 Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. 52 For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three. 53 Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

Often it is read that Jesus Christ came to bring war, this is not so. To really understand this scripture I believe it’s important to look at the Hebrew meaning of the word Peace. It means to be “set at one again” and be in “oneness”. We know through knowing the gospel that we cannot be joined with the earth and with our Heavenly Father. By Jesus Christ we have oneness with are brothers and sisters in the faith, Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit and The Father. But to all else we are as strangers because we are no longer of the same kinship as them.

1 Peter 1:1 –

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,

To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,

So for God to take Abram, out of his home environment and away from his family is not a big surprise, because God had a plan in mind for him. It’s also important to note that it’s great to see, that God is Faithful. Throughout the entire Bible, God stays and remains the same. Often people say God is different in the old and new testament, This is simply not true. God is Truth and His Truth does not change with time.

Family in Hebrew means - lineage, native country; also offspring, family: - begotten, born, issue, kindred, native (-ity).

Builds a fuller picture of what God is instructing him and what he is leaving. The last command God gives to Abram, is to leave his “fathers house”, Literally meaning house of your family. So it’s very clear that God is instructing Abram to leave his family, and all his that is due to him by his family and that environment.

Why does God command Abram away from his family and home ?

I think this is an important question, but I think we find the question is more so-

Why does God want Abram ( or us ) to separate ourselves from the world we love ?

I believe through reading this, and various other examples in the Bible, the greatest of which would be the disciples, as they are instructed to “follow” Jesus Christ. They left everything in an instance. We are so often influenced by those around us, especially in regards to family and friends. We can often be held back from what God is calling us to and for because we are not willing to boldly seek Him and follow Him and forsake all else for His Name.

In Jesus Christ we have no attachment to this world, God was creating an environment for Abram where he would rely and seek Him alone. God did not break those relationships himself, but commanded Abram to. It’s a beautiful picture of the nature of God, He does not impose anything upon us, He wants us to be willing participants in trusting Him. There is no-one Greater we can trust in.

Mark 10:28 –

Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.”

Jesus Christ replies to Him, something that is so in line with Genesis 12:1, and that is found in Mark 10:29-31.

29 So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[e] or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, 30 who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

What is God’s promise to Abram here ?, God will show him to a land.

“To a land that I will show you.”

God’s Promise that He will show him to a land. Show in Hebrew means to advise, guide. We find that God’s Promise is that He will guide him, to a new place, to a new land. It may not seem like the biggest of promises, but I believe there is something God has placed here for us to unpack. God had many promises awaiting Abram in this land, and many things prepared for him but the first step for Abram was to take a step for faith and trust in God and leave all that he had known.

If we look to John 14:1-6, I believe there is so much to be discovered of God’s nature here.

1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions;[a] if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.[b] 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

I believe these two scripture parallel each other greatly, We are so Blessed because we know the way to Heaven is Jesus Christ, the Way to Salvation is Him. Abram knew that God was the only Way to His Salvation. He trusted Him to lead his steps and to lead him to a new land. Through revelation of Jesus Christ we have so much assurance in God through Him.

The promise of land, if the promise that God will lead him. It’s an amazingly powerful promise and it’s one I’ve often overlooked but unless we place ourselves in a position where we say and want God to lead us, then we will constantly be trying to walk to places that we don’t know the way to and finding ourselves stumbling, like one walking in the dark.

What God had promised for Abram in this land, was so much stronger than anything physical or relational, But God had a great promise of something Spiritual, During the journey that came about Abram leaned more and more on God and witnessed God do great things and God ultimately established great things through Abram mainly Jesus Christ.

It’s a conditional promise, that he must leave his family, house, land and follow God, this is all too familiar in the new testament to the followers of Christ.

Matthew 10:37 –

“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.”

It’s a beautiful promise we have access to in Jesus Christ. So let us be prepared to leave everything behind, not look towards our family, nor friends nor workplace, nor anything else but only God as our Guide. He is Faithful to lead us, if only we would leave our comforts and follow.

3. God’s Promise of Authority and Sign of Hope

Genesis 9:13 Reads


1 So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. 2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. 4 But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. 5 Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every beast I will require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man’s brother I will require the life of man.


6 “ Whoever sheds man’s blood,
By man his blood shall be shed;
For in the image of God
He made man.

7 And as for you, be fruitful and multiply;
Bring forth abundantly in the earth
And multiply in it.”

8 Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying: 9 “And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants[b] after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth. 11 Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

12 And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.

This is a very extensive and beautiful promise. It begins with verse 1, which reads

“1 So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.”

This is important because everything that follows is in this context, God Blessed Noah and his son’s, so God’s Favour was towards them. So what follows in because of God’s favour towards them, It’s reassurance to the Noah and his sons. God commands Noah and His son’s to be “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth”, Which literally means to reproduce and fill the earth with the mankind. We see evidence of this command being fulfilled by man, as almost every region of the earth that is inhabitable is filled. It started under this Promise that God made with Noah. It is repeated in Genesis 9:7. It’s a beautiful command because God’s favour was towards them and He told them to reproduce to build up mankind to grow and expand as a people.

In the next verse, God grants man ( through this promise with Noah ) power of all inferior creatures, both animals of the land and animals of the sky. This is an important note because in the world there are teachings that all creation is as one and equal. This is not true, God gave Mankind dominion over the animals both of land and sky into our hands. This is also the Revival of a previous command of God which can be found in Genesis 1:28 –

28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

But there is a key difference here which we may not see if we’re not careful, that is before we were ruling by the establishment of Love and God’s Order, now we are ruling by Fear, because before we were not fallen into a state of corruption, we lived in a state of peace in the Garden of Eden, animals had no desire to eat us nor for us to eat them but that is no longer true, So we rule in fear because of sin’s influence on the world and the fall taking place. We still have the benefit of this promise. If it hadn’t been for this promise, animals may group up and rebel against man, especially considering if it hadn’t been for the authority over animals that God placed in our hands, we would constantly be in struggle with wild life. While we still suffer incidents with wildlife, animals have been restrained by God’s Command, It’s a beautiful promise because this applies not only to those who acknowledge God both those who do not. Again showing how much God’s heart is towards mankind, that even those who turn a blind eye to Him, He has blessed.


The next verse which is Genesis 9:3 which reads –

3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herb

This is an expansion on something God commanded in the Garden, that was in Genesis 1:29 which reads –

29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.

Originally man was created to just eat food from the earth and not intended to eat the beasts of the earth, and the beasts of the earth were also intended to only eat vegetation and so all lived in harmony and peace. This is outstanding because it does make further sense of why God made a promise that the beasts would fear man, because now beasts of the earth also eat on meat. So the introduction of fear amongst the beasts towards man is a very gracious gift from God. Prior to this, it wasn’t necessary but due to the fall and now the nature of even animals changing due to mankind. God says “given” which confirms to us that He holds all things in His Divine Authority even in corruption.



With the Promises of God there is often a condition, now in this promise there is not a condition to the Promise, because God has given this Promise onto all man through Noah, but there is a command attached to it. That is found in Genesis 4:4 which reads –

4 But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.

This is important text, especially in context to old testament law, Because the Blood was of great significance to sacrifices which were used as atonement for there sins, It could not be something that is to be viewed as cheap. The very “life” of man depended upon the blood of the sacrifices. Thus God commanded this to illustrate that anything given up in offering to the Lord cannot be viewed or treated as common. This is why the first fruits are important, because the first fruits of any crop or live stock are before stability has been established to that farm or live stock, so to sacrifice it is risky and uncommon. As we see with Cain and Abel, Abel gave the first fruits to The Lord God ( Genesis 4:4 )



Now in Genesis 9:5-6, We see we are beings under authority, Everything we do will be held accountable to us, this doesn't change when Jesus Christ fulfilled the law either ( Matthew 12:36 ). In the Old Testament, we are accountable to Him. We do not have authority to end our own lives or the lives of another. God says that we shall be accountable to Him, Not only for our lives but also if we were to end another’s life. Prior to the flood, the nation before lived very wickedly archaeologist’s who researched into this time, have found there to be an exceedingly high amount of murders and violent crimes.



Verse 9-11, God establishes His covenant with Noah and his descendants which carries on to this day. I absolutely love this

“And as for Me, Behold, I establish my covenant with you…”

“Behold” literally is a Call to Attention, LOOK!, Observe!. God is saying there is something of importance that Noah is about to witness and must be alert to. What was important is the words that follow. “I establish my covenant with you…” An ever lasting promise from God was poured onto Noah, his family and all his descendants. Our God is so gracious in His actions, He Blesses so many through one person. It’s outstanding what God does for the loved ones of a person who is obedient and has a desire towards God. To this day, we witness this promise; Everyday is a testimony to God’s work through this Covenant. This is a Covenant God made with You.

Behold! -

What are your desires today ? Desire this one thing, to be near and pleasing to God. From that everything else will stem. ( read Psalm 27 )


God says this not for the benefit of His Promise, but to the Benefit of Noah, that Noah may have confidence in the Word God has spoken, that he may know that God spoke a truth, and to the extent of which that truth operates.

( Scientific Speculation ) - It’s believed by many scientists and evident to them that during this time there was a canopy over the earth of water, which would of drastically effected the weather and such. It’s evidence that this canopy is what God brought to earth to bring about the great flood. So imagine Noah, literally witnessed the world change drastically and all by God’s Word and Command.

In verse 11 – God speaks of the promise not to flood the earth again nor harm all the animals of the earth again. In the midst of the world we live in with constant warning of Global warming, we as Bible believing Christians. Holding to God’s Word as Truth, We know that certain things will not pass on the earth due to God’s word as a protection, we witness locational floods and small floods, God isn’t saying that floods won’t befall the earth but He is saying that, the entire earth shall not fall to a global flood as it once did before.



“12 And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.”

I think the important thing we take notice here of is, why God gives us signs ?

I believe this can be found in our nature, Signs are given to us for our reassurance and to help us believe, They are gift’s from God to help reaffirm our Faith and reminders of God’s Presence. God uses them because the nature of God’s Love is so intense and abstract to our human culture and society, it’s a hard for us to process. God provides these signs to give us security. This is a perfect example of God uses a sign as a point of reassurance of His promise, It’s for our sake, that the Rainbow has become a symbol of God’s Covenant it’s a gift from God to remind us. Jesus Christ said in John 4:48 -

“Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”

I saw a rainbow 2 days ago, and was reminded of Jesus Christ and how His Love allowed us to have a relationship with Him from earth to on High.

We being humans are more affected by our senses than anything else, we can easily be deceived by our senses, that’s why it’s important for us to have a good grounding in God’s word, In His word we find Truth, that isn’t subject to our natural bodies. God has provided us this truth, so that we may be guarded against deception. God also provides signs that testify of His Majesty and in this case His Merciful Love that was Poured upon the earth.

A Rainbow has significance both to non-believers and believers, to non-believers people still see it as a symbol of Hope ( though what Hope they do not know ), We believers of Jesus Christ, Know that this is a Symbol of God’s Mercy and Love, It’s a Symbol of Hope in God’s Order in the world, It’s a Symbol that God is God.



This promise has great significance, As we went through verse by verse, the meaning of what God is saying and what God is giving to us. He commanded into us and blessed us, with authority and protection by His Promise. From that moment onwards there was a New Govern for mankind and new rules amongst the land.


Isaiah 54:9-10 says –

9 “ For this is like the waters of Noah to Me;
For as I have sworn
That the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth,
So have I sworn
That I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.
10 For the mountains shall depart
And the hills be removed,
But My kindness shall not depart from you,
Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,”
Says the LORD, who has mercy on you.

I think Isaiah 54:9-10 illustrates, God’s heart towards His Covenants and more so His Love towards myself and You.

God's FIrst Promise

1. Promise of Enmity and Triumph

Genesis 3:15 -

15 And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.”

This is the very first promise of God, and what an amazing Promise it is. It is a foretelling of the Messiah to come, From the Fall of Man, God at the very beginning had a plan for our Redemption and that was Jesus Christ. This at first is quite a confusing scripture, because of the terms used. Enmity can be exchanged for hatred or hostility. God is saying He shall put a hatred between the seed of the serpent and the woman. It is a very deep and beautiful scripture to unpack. What we have here straight after man has rebelled against God, God is unpacking things to come in the future and speaking of the Path to Salvation, That is Christ Jesus.

So it’s said first, there is a hatred between the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman, Now the seed of the serpent is the seed of rebellion, throughout the entire Bible, there are those who are rebellious to God. They are the “seed” or “children” of the serpent, or the enemy or satan. So the “Seed” of the Woman, who will ultimately be victorious over the serpents seed, is Jesus Christ, It is also a hint as to the Birth of Jesus Christ, as God said “her Seed” and made no mention of man’s involvement in reference to this Child.
So from the very beginning we have a Division. This is the division between, what is right with God and what is wrong before God. The seed of the enemy and the seed of the Messiah, It is said as seed and not in the pural sense, meaning singular paths. Which does give us insight as to how God views things to a certain extent, because as God has said -

James 2:8-13 says –

8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,”you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.”Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

There is only one who was able to walk Righteously and so Triumph over the enemy that being Jesus Christ. All else fell short of God’s Standard and Sinned. The Seed God speaks of, is the same Seed God speaks of to Abraham and that is Jesus Christ and His Church.

“He shall bruise your head”

I believe is speaking to a fatal blow, The enemy tried from the Birth of Christ to try to kill Him, but was unable to as Jesus Christ reigns now and forever more in Glory being above all things.
A good scripture that confirms this –

Revelation 11:15 -

"The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign for ever and ever"

“and you shall bruise His heel”

I believe this is referring to some of the Family of God falling away, as sadly happens in the church to do, as the enemy is constantly trying to bring the Children of God to stray from His Path.

So we have a Promise both about the Jesus Christ’s Coming and about the Falling away, We also have indications as to the nature God Willed between the two, Hatred. We should have a Hatred for Sin.

Jesus Christ commanded us to be “Perfect” ( Matthew 5:48 ) though we cannot achieve this in ourselves ( Romans 3:23 ), through Him we are made as perfect ( Colossians 1:28 ), that we in Him no longer fall short of Righteousness because we walk in His Righteousness ( Colossians 1:22 ) as the Seed and Family of God ( John 1:12 ).

Turn the Light on and Search!

^{Luke 8:8-10 reads –}

⁸ “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? ⁹ And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’ ¹⁰ Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

God is very thorough in His Ways, He placed us ( Believers ) in a very Blessed position. I believe it that it’s important for us to walk in that position God has called us to. In the parables in Luke 15, This is the middle one, Jesus Christ is speaking and explaining about how the Lost are important to God, and Jesus Christ.

I know times in my life, I have been in a state of being lost. Jesus Christ found me through a fellow believer and a sister. I knew God existed but I was a state mentally I didn’t know where to start looking for Him. Mostly I was fearful because I understood enough to know I was a sinner but knew nothing of God’s redemption in Jesus Christ.

A few years ago, I use to speak to many people about God, not knowing God. I use to speak about the government and how they were deceitful in there ways, all the while I was doing the exact same thing. I would speak great lengthy theories to people, to my class mates. So much so the teacher would actually allow me to speak to the whole class for an hour or so, How great that would have been if I had KNOWN God, but The words I was speaking were Death, I pray for each one of those people individually because I now realise the error of my ways but at the time,

Proverbs 15:4 says –

⁴ A wholesome tongue is a tree of life,
But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.

I was speaking so much but I was giving absolutely no hope. I was allow the enemy to use me and distract people from the BIGGEST question.

Who is Jesus Christ ?

I believe this solely is the biggest question we as believers need to bring towards people. It is the biggest defining point. Without Jesus Christ there is no salvation. There is no Genesis 1 or no Revelations 22.

John 1:1-5 –

¹ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ² He was in the beginning with God. ³ All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. ⁴ In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. ⁵ And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

The reason why I’m speaking about this is simple. In the parable in Luke 15:8-10, Jesus Christ Says “if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp”

We are seeking what is Lost, but if we ourselves do not have that Light, we will be searching in the Dark. This is why we seek God before seeking what is Lost. We are that Lamp, Jesus Christ was the first and the brightest Lamp of all, We all follow Him because His Light, The Light of Life shone into our lives and He brought us out of darkness. Now we through Him are Lamps in this world, Doing as He done, searching out the lost. “Carefully”.

John 8:12 –

¹² Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” ( A Promise from Jesus Christ )

And again in John 9:5 –

⁵ “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

We cannot search without the Light in our lives. Otherwise even if we were to find people in the dark, by feeling around in the dark. What use are we to them ? if we can’t bring them out of that darkness.

We are useless, we simply move a person from one form of darkness to another. But there is always Hope when we are looking to the word of God, for God said in Matthew 5:14-16 -

” ¹⁴ “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. ¹⁵Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. ¹⁶ Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

By accepting Christ into our lives and following Him and leaving behind our darkness ( that is repenting of our sin ). We become the Light of the World because of Christ in us. So when we encounter the Lost we have a True message of Hope and a true reason to seek after them, and a True salvation to Preach and a Light to shine into the darkness.

As we as believers move forward following Christ, it’s important for us to always seek after God, as we do such our passion and desires change from what we desire to what God desires, we continually transformed from the inside-out to a likeness to Christ ( Romans 12:1-2, 2 Corinthians 3:18 ). So when we walk in and out of situations our character is ever changing for the better as we hold onto Jesus Christ ( Romans 5:1-5 ). As this happens we are of better service to those around us, because Jesus Christ was the highest servant of all and served ALL in perfection.

I wrote this message as God emphasized to me the importance of having the Light always present when searching. As we seek God daily, As we walk as God’s Light in the World, Let us do so knowing that we have a True Hope, and True Gospel and a True Savior that is Jesus Christ.
